How to Plan a Breakout EDU Game

1. Check out the library of pre-made games in Room 120 or go to the Breakout EDU platform to search for a new game. (E-mail me for login info)

2. Watch the game overview video

3. Click the box that says "Access Game Resources" to view and print all the game materials. I recommend printing in color and laminating if you plan to use this game each year.

4. Rewatch video if necessary.

5. Organize materials:

-I recommend creating stations with one clue at each station

-Have students write down lock combinations on a recording sheet so the class can open all the locks during the last 10 mins of the Breakout game

-Make a baggie for each station with all materials inside it

-Decide what you want to put inside the box. Some teachers put prizes inside while others prefer just a sheet of paper that says "Congrats, you broke out!"

5. Set the locks using the combos provided in the game instructions

6. Run the game with your class. Here are some tips and tricks:

-Average time is 45 minutes per game but you can adjust the game to make it shorter or longer.

-Some of the more challenging games may be best to do using 2 class periods or 2 days (depending on your schedule).

-Have the combos written down on a piece of paper and carry it around with you while you facilitate the game. If students have the wrong combo written down, you can tell them things like "The first and last digit are correct, but I would look at the middle digit again."
