What is Copyright?
Copyright is a type of special law that protects works such as books, movies, images, and websites. The "These belong to you!" statement provided by copyright keeps them safe. Therefore, it's polite to obtain permission before sharing anything from a book or television show with others. It's crucial to appreciate what other people make, just as you wouldn't want someone to take an important work without your permission. Copyright enables us to accomplish that, allowing everyone to freely enjoy and distribute their creative works.
What is Fair Use?
Fair use is a kind of agreement that permits us to distribute media in specific forms, such as photos, videos, and songs. Imagine you want to share a brief movie clip in a presentation or use an image from a book for your school assignment. As long as it's for purposes like academic research, news reporting, or creating something original and creative, fair use permits you to do it without requesting permission. It is similar to temporarily using a friend's toy to play a game with them. While continuing to respect the artists' rights, fair use enables us to use and enjoy items in a fair and respectful manner.
