WHAT IS DIGITAL ACCESS?
The understanding that not everyone has the same access to technology. It should be a goal to make sure everyone has equal opportunity when it come to technology. This is because some people may have access to more technology than others.
Examples of Digital Access
Ex #1:
Assignment:
-A teacher assigns students a homework task that requires them to visit a website and collect data from that website. Students will be asked to create a Venn Diagram that compares and contrast data from the website. They will turn in their Venn Diagram at the beginning of class the next day.
Explanation:
This would not be fair for all students because not everyone has access to internet/technology outside of school and not every parent has the ability to help a child in this early childhood classroom access these websites.
It is best to perform a task like this during the school day.
Ex #2:
Announcements are posted every week for classwork, however the announcements can only be viewed online. In order for students to view announcements they must have digital access.
This is not fair to every student because not everyone has the same internet or technology access at home and outside of school. Hard copies of announcements will need to be given out each week in order to keep it fair.
