Speech & Language Therapy

Hi There!

Welcome to the Speech and Language Therapy website!  I am so excited to start my first full year here at Port Allegany Elementary School!  Feel free to take some time to scroll through this site to learn more about me and my passion to deliver the best services to the students at PAES.

Meet The SLP!

My name is Miss Watts and I am so excited to be the newest speech-language pathologist at PAES! I graduated with my master's degree in Science of Speech Language Pathology from PennWest University in December of 2023.

I am so thrilled to work with the students and parents in this district and can't wait to see what the 2023-2024 school year brings.

When I am not in the speech room, I love to read, practice yoga, go for walks, and drink coffee. I also have a growing houseplant collection that I enjoy caring for!

What is the Role of a School-Based SLP?

Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for service and/or making recommendations.

Facilitates meetings (IEP conferences, parent meetings, in-services) for the purpose of developing plans and/or providing information regarding student's functional goals.

Instructs students for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of speech and language deficits.

Prepares documentation (evaluations, observations, progress monitoring, contacts with parents, teachers and outside professionals, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support, developing recommendations and/or conveying information.

Researches resources and methods for the purpose of determining appropriate approachs for students' speech and language services.

Screens students for the purpose of determining the need for further individualized assessment.

Assesses communication skills (articulation, fluency, receptive and expressive language, voice, etc.)

Participates in various meetings (parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information to better serve students.

Play is my favorite language!

I love creating fun and interactive activities to keep the students engaged throughout speech sessions. We always have fun and work hard!
