This Week's Learning:
Reading:I can recognize the features of realistic fiction, and discuss the importance of setting
Continue to read, read, read at home! Students should be reading 20 minutes nightly.
When reading at home this week, ask your child to identify non-fiction text features
Ask your child to read out loud to practice their fluency!
RAZ kids is a great way to promote reading as well as comprehension practice at home!
Writing: I can describe a setting and write about a time I was in that setting
Grammar Focus: adjectives, have them describe things in the car
Discussion Ideas for Home:
Ask your child what their favorite part of writing is!
Ask your child about a favorite memory they have that they can write about
Phonics: I can recognize and use the inflectional endings -s/es and -ed
High Frequency Words: eight, nine
Math: I can use concrete models, and standard, word and expanded form to represent numbers up to 1,200

Imagine Math and Imagine Math Facts are great websites students can use from home to help support growth in math skills. Both sites can be accessed through the myhpisd portal linked here.
Please work with your child on addition and subtraction facts up to 20- these should be mastered by 2nd grade
