I decided to implement my mini unit into my current third grade website! I created this initially for another class of mine, but I plan on using this next year if possible! I really enjoy using this platform because it can be easily accessible to my students and their guardians. It is something that I can constantly add to and update, and it is something I can use for years to come if I want to! I think this could also be something that I could use in the future when applying for jobs to showcase my work and some of the lessons that I created.
For this mini unit, I decided to mainly focus on comparing and contrasting two nonfiction texts. I wanted my students to become more comfortable with the idea of comparing texts and elaborating their ideas by citing text evidence in their notes. This will help them in the future when writing papers, giving speeches, or even day to day conversation where they can cite their sources. I am excited for you to dive into my mini unit and maybe learn a little something, too!
Students will be able to compare and contrast two texts.
Students will be able to read and analyze a text to determine the meaning of the text as a whole.
Students will be able to create a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the two texts.
Students will be able to verbally explain their thinking about the two texts.
Each lesson has at least one brain break! We will be using GoNoodle for some dance breaks, and we will also be doing a mini teacher led yoga session. It is very important to implement breaks in lessons because kids should not have to sit and work for hours on end! Let's let kids be kids.
