Using Mo Dao Zu Shi to Comment on Grief

The requirements for Project #2 involved adapting our essay from Project #1 and taking a certain stance on the exploration posed in the first project. The theme I explored in my first project was about the intergenerational effects of grief, while I hoped to pinpoint the psychological nature of how grief affects a person and what makes an effective coping method for grief in my second project. I developed a visual novel following my original character Luciana--a woman who, after the loss of her mother, found herself with a mysterious journal that allows her to experience the grief of the characters of Mo Dao Zu Shi and learn how to come to terms with her own grief in the process. My process for this involved scriptwriting, coding, art, and audio editing, as well as research on how to implement some of the gameplay mechanics (such as being able to click on elements of a manhua panel to analyze).

The game can be downloaded and played here. Some screenshots from the game are shown below.
