Welcome to the website of Mirko Kück!
Mirko Kück (Dipl.-Math.)
Research Scientist at BIBA - Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik GmbH at the University of Bremen
Head of Intelligent Forecasting, Simulation and Optimization Lab (IFSO)
I am currently working as a research scientist and head of the Intelligent Forecasting, Simulation and Optimization (IFSO) Lab at the BIBA - Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik GmbH at the University of Bremen, Germany. In addition, I am a Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) candidate and plan to finish my doctoral thesis regarding "A meta-learning system for the automted selection of time series forecasting methods for production planning" in 2018.
My research is on data science and Industry 4.0 applications, such as real-time production planning and control or predictive maintenance. I am looking for interdisciplinary opportunities and contacts to enhance my latest research, in academia as well as in industrial applications.
Mirko Kück is a research scientist at the BIBA - Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik GmbH at the University of Bremen. He studied Mathematics at the University of Bremen with a particular emphasis on Statistics and Economics as an additional subject. After graduating with the German diploma (Dipl.-Math., grade "very good") in 2010, he joined the BIBA. Since October 2014 he is a Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) candidate at the University of Bremen regarding the research topic "A meta-learning system for the automted selection of time series forecasting methods for production planning". In 2016 he founded the Intelligent Forecasting, Simulation and Optimization (IFSO) Lab at BIBA and he has been heading the lab since then, coordinating a group of 20 members from research and industry working on different research projects.
Over the years, Mirko Kück successfully acquired several externally funded grants (DFG, DAAD, IIF) for original research projects as well as international research visits. Since 2016 he has been a visiting researcher at the Department of Production and Systems Engineering of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Florianópolis, Brazil.
Among other topics, Mirko Kück is currently working in the areas of supply chain planning and control as well as Industry 4.0 / smart manufacturing. In order to solve the complex and dynamic problems, he mainly applies methods from data analytics / machine learning, statistics, modeling and simulation, simulation-based optimization, neural networks and artificial intelligence. Mirko Kück published more than 20 articles in international journals and conference proceedings and also served as a reviewer for many. He presented his work on several national and international research conferences and industry workshops Besides, he also organized research conferences and industry meetings.
In addition to his research work, Mirko Kück has been teaching undergraduate and graduate classes as a lecturer and tutor at the University of Bremen in particular regarding modeling and simulation focussing on discrete-event simulation and system dynamics. Furthermore, he has been supervising student projects as well as multiple Master and Bachelor theses as second supervisor.
