モデルはキムネクマバチの雄です。

藤の花が咲く時期に、上空でホバリングして、雌が飛んでくるのを待っているらしい。でも飛んでいるもの全てを雌と勘違いして軽率に突撃していくものだから、ほとんど徒労なのだそうだ。たくさんの経験を積んだ上に時々大正解に当たるのだと思えば、当人にしたらそれでいいのだろう。

雄はそうして子種を残していなくなるのだけど、その後雌は独りで子どもを守れる場所を探し出して、誰の力も借りずに部屋を作って、卵を産みます。

The model is a male carpenter bees.

It is said to hover above the wisteria flowers when they are in bloom, waiting for the female to fly by. But it is almost a futile effort because they mistake everything flying by as a female and charge indiscreetly.  I guess it's all right to think that they have a lot of experience and sometimes get the right answer.

The male then disappears, leaving his offspring behind. The female then finds a place where she can protect her young all by herself, makes room without any help, and lays her eggs.
