Welcome!

I'm a senior lecturer in the Dept. of Humanities and Social Sciences at New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ.  I also serve as the faculty adviser to the NJIT student newspaper, The Vector.

Prior to working in academia, I was a full-time reporter and editor at newspapers in the Midwest and the Northeast. My freelance work has appeared in New Jersey magazine, The New York Times, nextcity.org, and other publications. I am also the author of the book, Independent Vision: Dorothy Harrison Eustis and the Story of the Seeing Eye (Purdue U. Press, 2010).

I am a passionate advocate for journalism and am a former president of the New Jersey chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. I love coffee, gardening, and toodling around on my (now vintage) red Motobecane Super Mirage bicycle that I bought with my paper route money in 9th grade.
