HOPE
High Order structure Preserving Embedded methods for nonlinear conservation laws
HOPE is a project funded by the by the French National Research Agency (ANR) through the Emergence programme.
HOPE develops high-order methods for conservation laws on complex, curved geometries. Embedded boundary methods avoid body-fitted meshes by modifying boundary conditions to compensate for geometric error, drastically reducing the cost of curvilinear mesh generation. Structure-preserving discretizations, on the other hand, deliver superior accuracy on coarser meshes by exactly reproducing key physical properties of the continuous equations.
The novelty of HOPE lies in coupling these two approaches. Embedded methods save time on meshing, structure-preserving methods improve accuracy on coarse grids. Together, they enable efficient and reliable simulations of vortices, shock waves, and flow instabilities in realistic geometries.
