Minutown — Privacy Policy (last updated 17 October 2026)
Minutown is a study timer that builds a city from the time you focus. It has no accounts, no adverts and no tracking, and we do not sell or share anyone's information.
Your city and your studying. Everything you build, every session you record, your checklist, goals, exams and notes are stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own iCloud account, so they survive reinstalling the app or changing phones. We cannot see any of it.
Weather. If you allow location access, Minutown sends a position rounded to about ten kilometres to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (api.met.no) to look up the weather over your city. Nothing else is sent with it, and it is not stored by us. You can turn location off at any time in Settings; the city then keeps fair weather.
Calendar. If you allow it, Minutown reads your calendar only to let you pick exams to count down to, and adds the study sessions you plan to it. Your calendar never leaves your phone.
Photos. If you choose a photo as your focus background, you pick it through Apple's photo picker and a copy is kept inside the app on your phone. Minutown cannot see the rest of your photo library.
City Gallery. If you choose to share your city in the gallery, a picture of it, its name, its focus hours and the buildings in it are stored in Apple's iCloud public database for the app, where other people using Minutown can see them and give them a heart. Your notes, checklist and study history are never shared. Sharing is anonymous: no name or email goes with it. You can take your city down at any time from the gallery, which deletes it. Anyone can report a city or hide cities from a person; reported cities are reviewed within a day and removed if they break the rules.
Studying together. If you choose to study with friends nearby, your phone connects directly to theirs over the local network or Bluetooth. Only your city's name is shown to them.
Sharing your city. If you send your city or a picture of it to someone, the file contains your buildings and focus hours, not your notes or checklist.
Blocking distracting apps. If you use app blocking, it works through Apple's Screen Time. Apple keeps the apps you choose private: Minutown cannot see which apps they are or how you use them, and nothing about them leaves your phone.
Notifications, widgets and Apple Watch. Reminders and the end-of-session alert are set on your phone. Widgets, the Lock Screen countdown and the Watch app read your progress from your own devices only.
Music. "Play from Spotify, Apple Music or Podcasts" only opens that app; Minutown does not see what you play.
Children. Minutown collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Deleting your data. In Minutown, More → Raze and start over erases your city and study history, both on your phone and in your iCloud copy. Deleting the app then removes everything else it kept on your phone. A city shared to the gallery can be taken down from the gallery at any time.
Feedback. If you email us, we use your email address only to reply to you.
Changes. If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
