How to Join
Thank you for your interest in joining our lab.
We welcome motivated students who are passionate about big data analysis, finance, econometrics, and statistics.
1. Preparation & Eligibility
To join our lab, you are expected to have a solid quantitative background (e.g., in mathematics, statistics, or programming).
It would be helpful if you can perform data preprocessing, modeling, and statistical analysis using Python or R.
Recommended courses include:
Probability and Statistics* / Programming (Python or R)
Linear Algebra / Mathematical Analysis
Regression Analysis / Time Series Analysis*
Stochastic Calculus / Financial Big Data Analysis*
(*: taught by Prof. Shin)
Students may take Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics before joining the lab to build a stronger foundation.
If you would like guidance on which courses to take and which topics to focus on, feel free to contact me for individual consultation.
Note: Prior knowledge of finance is helpful, but not required.
We welcome students from diverse quantitative backgrounds.
2. Research Environment
We hold weekly research meetings to discuss progress and ideas.
Students are welcome to request additional meetings if they would like to discuss their research further.
I actively support students in both the theoretical and empirical aspects of their work.
3. Opportunities to Join
POSTECH students:
You are encouraged to participate through Independent Study (개별연구).
In special circumstances, internship participation may also be possible.
Students from other universities:
You can apply for summer or winter internships through POSTECH IME programs.
We strongly recommend that students who wish to join our lab first participate in a lab internship or conduct Independent Study before applying to a graduate program.
