Purpose of Study

The Minority Motherwork Project is a Black Feminist dissertation project which explores how Mothers and Caregivers of Black children navigate school systems amid local economic and political changes. The current phase of the study focuses on the experiences of Mothers/Caregivers, and Educators in the SouthEast, MI area who can talk about the local policies and initiatives that influence their practices as they parent/care for and educate minority children. The study aims to see how identity and context inform different approaches to parental involvement.

My dissertation honors the work of mothers and caregivers who deal with different obstacles while educating and caring for their children. The primary investigator Gabrielle L. Peterson invites you to participate in a 1.5 hour interview about your experiences with Minority Motherwork. Interviews cover themes of identity, parent involvement, and political participation.
