Not long ago, there was a miqo’te named Selysette (now known as Sissel), stolen from the Keeper of the Moon kin. The Hyur couple that kidnapped her were short on cash from gambling, despite being part of a steady lineage - hence, they schemed to play up her  “exoticism” in order to find a good match among Hyur nobility, and obtain substantial payment. 

Selysette was trained to be a perfect lady, however since they didn’t raise her attentively and only as an object, she was compulsive and tireless, often letting feline instinct get the better of her. Still, Selysette loved her parents and thought they were doing what was best.

At thirteen years old, her first engagement was with a Hyur boy named Claes. They got along well, until one night it was revealed Claes was the second son. The next day, with Selysette eating across from him, Claes took a sip of tea brought by one of his servants. He coughed up blood and died on the spot, while her mother dragged her away.  

At sixteen, she was paired with Leifur Descoteaux, another boy of her age. He was the confirmed heir, but Selysette was troubled by his four younger siblings, who harassed them with pranks ranging from mild to dangerous. 

Leifur promised they meant no harm. They married, and one month passed in peace. Then she woke to screaming - Leifur accepted a duel from one of his younger brothers the previous day, his rotting body found skewered by a sword.

Rumors began to circulate about Selysette’s fatal unions. People were kind, yet refused to cross her in the street, and vendors said quick prayers before she left. Her parents, mother especially, were frustrated and had no expectations of getting a return on their investment. They just wanted her gone. Regardless, Selysette promised to keep moving forward! 

At seventeen, Selysette married Aduni Tiduni, a lalafell almost a decade older. Aduni was promised a gorgeous miqo’te, and Selysette didn’t meet his requirements. Post-ceremony, he threw a tantrum and demanded a divorce. It wouldn’t be until almost a year later she  discovered he passed away, abandoned in an obscure dungeon. 

Shortly after Selysette turned nineteen, she welcomed the nickname Sissel - partly to distance herself from the tragedy of Selysette, a cursed presence in their community. Newly-weds left shiny trinkets at her windowsill to ward away bad luck, and her mother insisted Sissel shouldn’t go out, to avoid scaring neighbors. Sissel comforted herself by thinking of it as a game. 

Her parents pushed her to marry Fenwick, a towering man in his mid-sixties. No one knew his full name. He was rich; no one questioned where the riches came from. There was little ceremony. After almost half a year locked inside, something inside her cracked. She stole keys and every bit of money and jewels while Fenwick was drunk and unconscious in bed. Sissel washed every room with oil, threw a torch and escaped.

Sissel never gave much thought to life, since everything appeared to move so quickly around her. She was thrilled to begin a new journey by hitching a ride to Limsa Lominsa!
