Rules and Regulations:
Eligibility: MINIC SDG is open to all students currently enrolled in higher education institutions and schools, local and international.
Team Formation: Participants can participate individually or in teams of up to five members plus a mentor or supervisor.
Registration: All participants must register for MINIC SDG by the deadline. MINIC SDG will be conducted in hybrid format (physical or online)
Submission Requirements: Participants must pitch a complete proposal that outlines their innovative idea using a poster and video along with a prototype and solution strategies. The poster and video must be submitted ahead of the pitching day.
Abstract: An abstract of not more than 300 words summarising your proposal must be submitted before the deadline. This abstract will be printed in the programme book.
Originality: The Innovation Challenge encourages original ideas. All submissions must be original and not previously published or submitted to any other competition.
Evaluation Criteria: The proposals will be evaluated based on their originality, feasibility, and potential for impact. The evaluation panel will consist of industry experts, entrepreneurs, and academics. Judges’ decision is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entertained.
Awards: All participants will be awarded a certificate and a medal for the team.
Intellectual Property Rights: All intellectual property rights of the submissions will remain with the participants. However, by participating in the Innovation Challenge, the participants agree to grant the organizers the right to promote their ideas and use their names, images, and videos for publicity purposes.
Confidentiality: All submissions will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. However, the organizers cannot be held responsible for any unauthorized use or disclosure of the submitted ideas.
Code of Conduct: All participants must adhere to a code of conduct that promotes ethical behavior, respect for others, and professionalism.
Disqualification: The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any participant or team that violates any of the rules or regulations or engages in any unethical behavior.
Amendment: The organizers reserve the right to amend or modify any of the rules or regulations at any time, subject to notice to the participants.
Implementation method
Students will use inquiry based learning to identify real life issues or problems related the 21st Century Global Challenges. This problem(s) will need to be supported in documents, articles or news. Students then will use microorganisms or microbial technology to propose solutions. The capabilities of the microbes to solve the problems must be supported by published journals. The solutions must include the specific SDG goals that need to be achieved. Students will need to develop a prototype and pitch the solutions to the judges from the industry, educators and government agencies. The students will need to work transdisciplinary and collaboratively.

International students - USD50/team
Note: Online participation is limited to only International and Borneo participants
