"Scutellariae baicalensis radix as a new strategies for local treatment of vaginal infection"
The project aims to develop chitosan systems with a lyophilized extract from the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis dedicated to treating bacterial vaginosis.
The combination of a lyophilized extract with chitosan is intended to increase its activity in the scope of the proposed studies and obtain a system with a prolonged release of active compounds, consequently reducing the frequency of taking the drug and minimizing the side effects.
As a result of conducting the main assumptions of the project, the stability of the obtained chitosan systems, their biological activity (microbiological, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory), and the dissolution profiles of active compounds in in vitro conditions will be determined. The intermolecular interactions between active compounds and carrier will be assessed using spectroscopic methods.
Based on the obtained results, a novel chitosan system for the delivery of S. baicalensis radix lyophilized extract with the most potent pharmacological activity will be selected, used in further formulation research.
