Hi, I'm Minhey ("MIN-hay")! I am a PhD candidate in Communication at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I earned my BA and MA in Media and Communication at Korea University. Prior to my academic career, I worked in the advertising, luxury goods (media team), and education industries.
My research centers on persuasion and new media, with an emphasis on health topics. I am interested in message resistance and overcoming barriers to persuasion, and the unintended effects of message processing on health perceptions. I further examine how characteristics of new media (e.g., algorithmic content curation) and individual differences (e.g., media literacy, body dissatisfaction) affect persuasive health communication.
My work has been published or are forthcoming in peer-reviewed outlets such as the Journal of Health Communication, Motivation Science, and The Korean Journal of Advertising. For a review of my work, welcomed collaboration experiences, or other inquiries, please email me at mchung18@illinois.edu.
