The Moss Ancestral Home is owned by Mary Lou Moss Godleski.  Mary Lou, along with family, have been restoring this house for over 30 years.  Her ancestor, Jacob Moss, lived in it from 1859-1899.  The house is open the second Sunday from April to November from 1-4 p.m. with the exception of Easter Sunday 2023.

The house has a very interesting history, not only in the building, but also of the the people who built it and lived there.  The Dunlap family built it and the Burnett, Moss, Stouffer and Chipps families lived in it.  A Cleveland company, Rice, French, Cook and Co., also owned it for a short time for coal and black band ore mining purposes.

The Mineral Ridge Historical Society has helped Mary Lou with open houses and events for about 17 years.

Come see this unique historic treasure which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 30, 2023.

Main Street south of Depot Street about 1907

Main Street Mineral Ridge has changed throughout the years.  At the very top of this website you see Mineral Ridge in the late 1950's or early 1960's looking south with Depot St. located past the first brick building on the right.  In the picture directly above, the postmark is 1907 and Depot St. is not seen but is located past the street car. It is looking north towards Niles.  The tall building was built by the IOOF (International Order of Odd Fellows) about 1874.

Main Street north of Depot Street before 1921

Another view of Main Street Mineral Ridge looking north.  Depot St., also called Coal St., is on the left.  The date is unknown, however, it had to be taken before 1921 when the road was bricked. The building on the corner of Depot and Main on the left has always been a store and was later the location of the brick building, where Beazell's, and later Young's had their businesses.  Thank you to Dave Cover for the above picture.

When Mineral Ridge was incorporated in 1871, the north boundary line was Ohltown McDonald Road.  The area north of that at the crossroads of Rt. 46 and Salt Springs Rd. was referred to as Evansville.  Evansville school was located going east at this intersection on Salt Springs Rd.  Evansville school children later went to the Mineral Ridge school on Main Street after they reached a certain age.  Later the Evansville school became the middle school for the Weathersfield Local Schools.  An Evansville Baptist Church still exists today that keeps the namesake.  Jones Dairy is on the NW corner of this intersection and was where the convenient store is today.  The railroad crossing in the background is now the bike trail today.  None of the buildings in the picture exist in 2023.

This is located after the southern boundary of incorporated Mineral Ridge.  Mineral Ridge's southern boundary ended at Webb Rd. in Austintown Township.  This area in the picture, called Pleasant Hill, is many times associated with Mineral Ridge.  The church and school were located on Rt. 46 near where Arby's and Perkins are today.

Thank you to the Niles Historical Society for the Main St. Mineral Ridge (located at the very top) and Evansville pictures and Evelyn Koch for the Pleasant Hill picture.  Also thank you to Evan Michael for colorizing the Main St. picture.
