If you use a shear on a nest or hive, you will get honeycombs, which can be crafted into the decorative honeycomb block or used to craft beehives to house more bees (all nests and hives house up to three bees). You can also automate the production of either item by using a dispenser with shears or empty bottles.

While not as big as its two predecessors (or its successor, The Nether Update), the bees do a good job of adding more life to the world when you find them, the quality of life features are welcome changes to the game and especially more so the bug fixes. For the most part, Bees are a passive mob that will only attack you when you anger them, and like real bees, when they attack you their stinger will fall out, and they will die, dropping no items in the process, so there is no real reason to be attacking them. Bees can be found in the wild, homeless and wandering looking for a nest, or they can occupy a nest that spawns randomly throughout the world. A nest can hold 2 to 3 bees per nest. Once a bee finds a nest they will return there each night or if it starts raining.

When a hive is ready to harvest, honey will drip from the hive. You can collect this sweet reward in two ways. The first way is to use shears on the block to get three honeycombs. The second way is to use a glass bottle to harvest the honey directly. However, if you do either of these, the bees will become aggressive.

Like every other mob in Minecraft, bees require an item to be fed to them to make them breed. In this instance, they blooming love flowers (yes, I made a flower joke). Giving two bees flowers will create a baby bee and provide some cool experience points.

The breeding cooldown for bees is five minutes. It takes twenty minutes for the baby bee to grow up (one in-game day). You can speed this up by giving the baby bee flowers, which individually provides a -10% reduction time.

As you probably understood with this update title, most of the new content is about bees. Those new creatures will now spawn naturally in nests in the wild, and you will be able to build them beehives to create them new homes.

Bees will gather pollen from flowers around nests and beehives. Once pollen gathered, bees will return home and produce honey.

You can collect this honey, however, do not forget to use smoke to calm bees.

New blocks have been introduced, such as Honey Blocks and Honeycomb Blocks. Honey Blocks look like Slime Blocks, but are yellow, and have some interesting mechanics. Honeycomb Blocks are purely decorative.

This Update also corrects a lot of bugs, and provide new functionalities from other Minecraft platforms.
