Live Display of parties, leaders and candidates

Before you start

A gentle reminder of Mapping Italian News *prime directive*: social media metrics != public opinion.

When looking at this live display please always keep in mind that naively using social media attention metrics (despite the penetration of a platform) as a mirror of public opinion is horribly wrong. Ads, algorithmic amplification and coordinated efforts are widespread.

What is a CrowdTangle Live display?

Live displays are visually interesting real-time overviews of certain streams of posts, leaderboards, and popular topics.

Posts can be sorted by different metrics and a public Live Display allows the viewer to customise the way posts are sorted (e.g. overperforming, hot, total interaction, most recent, etc) on a per column basis. To customise the sorting preference, click the gear icon.

While mobile phones are supported, Live displays are meant to be visualized on larger screens.

The 2022 Italian Election Live display allows you to monitor in real time the posting activity of:

  • Main Italian leaders on Facebook (Pages and verified public profiles) (15 accounts)

  • Main Italian parties on Facebook (15 accounts)

  • All Italian candidates to the "uninominale" who have a Facebook account (Pages and verified public profiles) (428 accounts)

  • All Italian candidates to the "uninominale" who have an Instagram account (537 accounts)

The full list of these accounts is available on request by filling this form.

The first four columns of the 2022 Italian Election Live display shows a feed of the posts of the four categories of political actors mentioned above (Main Italian leaders on Facebook, Main Italian parties on Facebook, All Italian candidates who have a Facebook account, All Italian candidates who have an Instagram account) that have overperformed the most in the last 6 hours.

In the last 4 columns you will instead find a summary of the performance of each account. The default view shows the total daily interactions (reactions, shares and comments on Facebook and likes and comments on Instagram) received by posts published by each account in the four lists in question. Additionally, each column also displays a graph showing the overall trend of the interactions received in the last day compared with those received from the same lists a week before, and the details of the interactions received by the individual entities that make up each list.

For each entity, the following data referring to the last 24 hours are indicated:

  • Share of Voice -The percentage of Total Interactions that belongs to a page or account in a List;

  • Interactions – The total number of reactions, shares and comments on Facebook and likes and comments on Instagram;

  • Posts – Total number of posts published;

  • Rate - Calculated by adding up the number of interactions for all of the account’s posts in the specified time frame, divided by the number of posts, and then divided again by the average account size (followers/page likes) in question over the timeframe.
