EP.3: Think With AI, Not Through It

Opening Sentence

AI should expand your thinking, not replace it.

Body

When people start using AI more, something subtle often happens.

They begin to rely on it.

At first, it feels helpful.

Faster answers.

Clearer explanations.

Less effort.

But over time, there is a hidden risk.

They stop thinking as deeply as before.

Instead of processing ideas themselves, they begin to “go through AI” to get results.

This is where the difference matters.

Thinking through AI means you use it to bypass your own thinking.

Thinking with AI means you use it to develop your thinking.

One replaces effort.

The other strengthens it.

When you think with AI, you don’t hand over your questions and wait.

You bring your raw thoughts — even if they are unclear, messy, or incomplete.

You let AI help you:

â€Ē organize what you are trying to say

â€Ē reflect what you might be missing

â€Ē show connections you didn’t notice

â€Ē challenge assumptions you didn’t question

But you stay present in the process.

You don’t disappear from it.

The goal is not to get the “best answer.”

The goal is to become a better thinker through the interaction.

Because in the long run, your value will not come from how fast you get answers.

It will come from how well you can think.

And AI, when used correctly, can help you do exactly that.

Try This

The next time you use AI, try this shift:

Start by writing your own thoughts first (even if unclear)

Ask AI to refine or challenge them

Compare your original thinking with the refined version

Notice what changed.

Not just in the answer — but in how you think.

Reflect

Are you using AI to avoid thinking — or to become someone who thinks more clearly than before?Â
