About Ollie
“Parenting is the hardest, most important and most rewarding work I’ll ever do: an unending succession of acts of love. It’s an honour, but it can also be tedious, exhausting and at times really painful.
Mindfulness meditation has dramatically increased my capacity to contribute to my kids, be present for them when they need me, enjoy life, and look after myself during difficult times. I’m training to be a meditation teacher because I want to share that with as many people as possible.”
I've been meditating for 25 years, and I've maintained a daily meditation practice for over twelve (with the occasional day off).
I'm in my second and final year of the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program run by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield through the Greater Good Science Centre at the University of California.
Before giving up work to care for my son, I was a high school teacher. As well as teaching regular school subjects, I taught introductions to mindfulness meditation through Smiling Mind.
My passion for teaching began in Indonesia, where I worked as a writer for several NGO’s and taught English to adults part-time.
I've been a father for over ten years, and a full-time parent for four years.
I'm also pretty handy on a unicycle, I can breathe fire, I enjoy reading and bushwalking and I run a Dungeons and Dragons game for autistic adults through Spectrum Writing.
