Welcome to Mind & Movement Online.

Dear students and family members,

The Mind & Movement class at The Biome School is working with resources from OPENPhysEd.org , Tik Tok, and Youtube to help you stay physically active and healthy while our schools are closed. In order to meet physical education goals during this time students must be physically active for 60 minutes each day. Use this physical activity log to record your activity time.

Remember, activity time doesn’t have to happen all at once. You can add up your total activity throughout the day to equal 60 minutes. Students, at the end of each day ask a family member to sign next to the day’s total activity. Then, return the finished log to Mr. Purnell when school is back in session.

If our schools are closed for more than 2 weeks, visit

www.openphysed.org/activeschools/activehome

to download and print another activity log.

I would also like you to visit the file links for your grade level on the OPEN webpage. From there you’ll be able to download and print physical education resources that are fun and can be done at home.

Thank you for your cooperation. Stay active and stay well.

Sincerely,

Mr. Purnell

Let us connect through Tik Tok

TikTok is an app for making and sharing short videos. My puropose of using Tik Tok is for giving the students a platform where we can all meet, socalize, share, connect, and most importantly.....MOVE!

Video creators have all sorts of tools at their disposal. Users are also strongly encouraged to engage with other users, through “response” videos or by means of “duets” — users can duplicate videos and add themselves alongside.

TikTok is, however, a free-for-all. It’s easy to make a video on TikTok, not just because of the tools it gives users, but because of extensive reasons and prompts it provides for you. You can select from an enormous range of sounds, from popular song clips to short moments from TV shows, YouTube videos or other TikToks. You can join a dare-like challenge, or participate in a dance meme, or show off our talents and interests.

Steps to connect:

1) Download Tik Tok

2) Follow me! @Mr.Purnell

Welcome to Mind & Movement via Youtube!

Hello Biome Community!

As we are all trying to stay healthy by staying home it is important to maintain 60 minutes of physical activity daily. I have created weekly playlists for our community to particpate with. Your task is to complete each playlist weekly. Feel free to repeat videos and learn some new dances/workouts. My main goal for all learners is to step outside their comfort zones and try! Post videos to their Classroom Dojo Portfolios.

OPEN VIRTUAL FIELD DAY

Dear Families,

We’re excited to announce that our school community will be participating in the OPEN National Field Day events.

Field Day is an important tradition at our school. It is a significant day for our students and our staff, and we feel that in these incredibly challenging times this national event is a unique way that we can stay connected as a community and support one another in a fun and meaningful way.

OPEN (Online Physical Education Network) is a national public service organization that provides curriculum and training support to more than 90,000 teachers in all 50 states. We will be using their resources and social media network to help us organize our school’s participation in #NationalFieldDay.

All #NationalFieldDay events are designed to be done indoors or outdoors using common household items. You won’t be asked to purchase any specialized equipment or supplies.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Our school is now registered as a participant in this event. Families can choose to register as well, but it’s not a requirement.

  • The event website is www.openphysed.org/nationalfieldday.

  • You can also find updates via social media using #NationalFieldDay.

  • Your family will be asked to choose a minimum of 4 events to complete on Field Day. However, you may complete as many events as you’d like to.

  • Our entire school will participate in events, complete an official score card, share photos and videos through our school’s approved platforms, and participate nationally on social media using #NationalFieldDay.

We will continue to send you weekly updates on this fun and festive event. We appreciate your cooperation and are hopeful that your entire family will use it as a fun and meaningful way to be physically active together and with our entire school community.

Stay active. Stay well,

Mr. Purnell
