In this social media campaign, we highlight common risk factors faced by athletes due to the immense pressure they experience. This pressure can significantly impact both their mental and physical well-being. Our group focuses on several mental health risk factors and protective factors related to the mental health challenges athletes encounter. The risk factors we identified are:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Eating Disorders
Anxiety can affect anyone, regardless of social connections. Depression occurs when an individual loses interest or pleasure in activities they once enjoyed. Eating disorders may manifest as a lack of appetite or interest in food.
To address these issues, we identified protective factors, which are characteristics associated with a lower likelihood of experiencing negative outcomes from these risk factors. Our main protective factors are:
- Positive Self-Image
- Positive Self-Control
-Positive Mindset
- Mindfulness
These protective factors can significantly enhance how individuals perceive themselves. A positive mindset helps individuals manage their emotions, fosters a better self-image, and equips them with coping strategies for stress
