A collection of projects made during my time at Blackpool Sixth Form College and the University of York, while undertaking a BSc in Film and Television Production
As part of my final unit at Sixth Form, we were tasked with making a music video inspired by a film auteur, I chose Stanley Kubrick and drew inspiration from 2001: A Space Odyssey. I focused on incorporating non-linear editing styles that were found in the soviet montage movement such as jump cuts and cross dissolves to depict the overall motif of escapism. This was a solo project.
As part of our multi-camera unit at Sixth Form I acted as director, editor and camera operator for our climbing themed game show. The show is centered around two participants who have to answer film related questions to beat each other to the top of the wall. This was heavily inspired by shows such as Total Wipeout and Ninja Warrior.
As part of our corporate unit at Sixth Form we were tasked with making a promotional video for an outside client. In this project I acted as director, camera operator and editor. Our client was an NHS charity, Blue Skies, based at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and they wanted to not only promote their work but also celebrate the 75th anniversary of the NHS. The initial montage at the beginning showcases the legacy of the NHS from its founding in 1948 up to the present day.
I crewed onto this multi-camera live music production as a camera operator. The project revolved around a live cover of Crying Lightning by The Arctic Monkeys.
As part of our stop motion animation unit at sixth form I decided to make a claymation surrounding water safety and the 'Float to Live' campaign. Taking inspiration from Aardman claymations, I created an anthropomorphic character known as 'Silly Sammy' to be able to appeal to a younger target audience. This can also be seen in the saturated colour palette and the simple storyline. This was a solo project.
As part of our advert unit at Sixth Form we were tasked with recreating a perfume advert for Paco Rabanne but in the style of a 1940s film-noir, using the stereotypical trope characters found in this genre of film. I acted as the producer and editor in this project.
Crewed onto this promotional video for a local events company called BASH, as a for a science themed children's birthday party. We were tasked with creating a short video that could be posted onto their social media pages.
As part of my second semester at University we were tasked with the making of a 15 minute live TV show. Our show was called 'Talking Paranormal' and revolved around York's history as being one of the most haunted cities in Europe. In terms of my role on the project, I was the graphic designer and operator on the day of the show, designing the title sequence and the lower thirds. Then for our VTs I acted as camera operator and editor for the cold open and vox pops segment..
As part of my first semester at University we were tasked with the making of a 5 minute short film centred around a theme of our choosing. I acted as cinematographer in this project and wanted the film to feel natural and comedic. The narrative revolves around a university student who believes he's living within a simulation.
