The Millicoma Marsh Trail is a popular local open space and hiking trail system since 1992. The area around Eastside has been used for dredge material disposal, raising the land from tidal influence to about 15 feet above its historic level. The dikes built up to contain the sand, shell, and mud have been used as primitive trails before 1992. There was interest to access the salt marsh at the eastern edge of the fill and so the Millicoma Marsh Trail was created through Federal funds for the purpose of education and recreation. You can read more about this in the Millicoma Marsh Management Plan.
