Milkwood Books, was established in 2024 by Pierre Donahue in Swansea, Wales, U.K and named after Dylan Thomas’s play for voices Under Milk Wood.
We are a mobile rare, pre-loved and second-hand bookshop based on Gower near Swansea, that travels to festivals, markets, and towns across Wales and the UK. Operating from a trailer and pop up gazebo, we offer an inviting and immersive space for browsing books and literary-themed merchandise.
The bookshop specialises in curated selections of rare, second-hand, and niche titles, including folk tales, myths and legends, LGBTQIA+ literature, women and gender, poetry with a focus on Dylan Thomas and Welsh writers, children’s books, fiction, non-fiction, philosophy, science, politics, race, music and culture, and esoteric interests.
In addition to books, the business also serves as a mobile cultural venue, and can host author signings, readings, workshops, and pop-up literary events. The vision of Milkwood Books is to foster literary culture across the UK.
