Milkwood Books, was established in 2024 by Pierre Donahue in Swansea, Wales, U.K and named after Dylan Thomas’s play for voices Under Milk Wood. Originally a mobile bookshop that was taken to street markets and festivals, In 2026 a permanent base was established at Unit 52 in Swansea Indoor Market. The market is the largest indoor market in Wales and was crowned Britains Best Large Indoor Market in 2024.
We offer an inviting and immersive space for browsing books and literary-themed merchandise. The bookshop specialises in curated selections of rare, new, second-hand, and niche titles, including folk tales, classics, myths and legends, LGBTQIA+ literature, women and gender, poetry with a focus on Dylan Thomas and Welsh writers, children’s books, fiction, non-fiction, philosophy, science, politics, race, music and culture, and esoteric interests.
In addition to books, the business also serves as a cultural venue, and can host author signings, readings, workshops, and pop-up literary events. The vision of Milkwood Books is to foster literary culture across the UK.
