Hi. My name is Milind Sohoni. Currently, I am a Professor in the OMS group at the University at Buffalo (UB), School of Management. I also serve as the Department Chair and the Faculty Director of the Center for Supply Chain Analytics. Before joining UB, I was with the Indian School of Business (ISB) as a Full Professor in the OM group. I also served as the Deputy Dean for Faculty and Research, Deputy Dean for Academic Programs, and the Deputy Dean for Faculty Alignment and Registrar's Office.
My research broadly spans four interconnected areas: (i) supply chain analytics, (ii) transportation and logistics, (iii) healthcare service operations, and (iv) non-profit and developmental operations. Most of my research is motivated by practice and uses data from the industry. I use analytical and empirical modeling tools, game-theoretic analysis, large-scale computational optimization, statistical learning, and empirical methods in my research. Some of my research insights, algorithms, and solutions have been implemented in practice to improve firms' operational outcomes. Governmental agencies and policymakers have also quoted some of my work. I have published several research articles in top-tier academic journals. I serve as an associate editor for leading OM academic journals such as Operations Research, M&SOM, and POM.
I have several years of corporate experience in consulting and research. Before joining ISB, I was a research advisor with the R&D group at Delta Technology, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, Atlanta, GA. Before that, I worked with the Advanced Decision Support Systems group at AT&T Bell Labs in Holmdel, New Jersey, and Ryder Dedicated Logistics, Miami, Florida.
I completed my Ph.D. in Operations Research from the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA.
