Mila Koeva
Associate Professor, University of Twente, ITC
I am an Associate Professor in “3D city digital twins based on geospatial technologies for improved land management and urban planning” at the University of Twente, Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Geo-information Management (PGM), Enschede, The Netherlands. My PhD is on “3D modelling in architectural photogrammetry” from the University of Architecture, Civil engineering, and Geodesy in Sofia.
For my research, I am interested in innovative methods for automatic feature extraction for mapping based on satellite, aerial, LiDAR, and UAV data. This includes using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) approaches. My research is not limited to conventional 2D mapping, but also, I was also inspired to move towards new land management and city planning, namely Digital Twinning.
Currently, I am leading Digital Twin Geohub in UT and am part of several European projects. I am chairing working groups and organizing scientific events, e.g. chairing ISPRS WG IV/9 on Digital Twins, FIG WT 7 on AI4LA, etc. I am passionate about co-development and application of innovative methods using geospatial and remotely sensed data for City Digital Twin or 3D city model creation, enhancing mapping, resource management, and decision-making for cadastral and urban planning applications, among others.
