In 2016, Mikey & Me was established to help dogs at risk in overcrowded shelters in Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky. We’ve been highly successful in our mission to save homeless dogs and the Mikey & Me name has gained a strong foothold in Chelsea, Dexter, and much of SE Michigan.
In 2024, we gained 501(c)(3) non-profit status and began fundraising to expand our abilities to help reduce homelessness for dogs.
Every shelter we work with has told us that more families than ever are surrendering their dogs due to the rising cost of groceries, pet food, supplies, veterinary care, etc. Mikey & Me wants to help.
In 2025, we kicked off the Mikey & Me Family Assistance Program (FAP) with the goal of helping families keep the pets they already have out of the shelters due to high care costs. In addition to the family assistance agencies we are working with, if you or someone you know is experiencing economic difficulties that puts their pet ownership at risk, Mikey & Me can help with:
- Pet Food
- Annual Tests & Vaccinations
- Spay/Neuter Services
- Medication, etc.
This program is completely anonymous. Only the Executive Director of Mikey & Me, Dan DePew, and the FAP Coordinator will have access to your request.
To learn more, please send an email to Mikeyandmefamilyassistance@gmail.com.
We look forward to providing this service to our community; this initiative has been made possible by all of you who have contributed to Mikey & Me.
Thank you,
Dan DePew
