Hi, I have lived on the marshes of the Norfolk Broads for Forty five years now and I try to capture the beauty, wildlife and essence of this wild wetland and coast, both as an old 35mm film amateur photographer and now in my retirement I’m into digital photography and loving it.
I do sell prints to people who would like them.
I hope you enjoy my photos and if you would like a print then please let me know,
I have been using the micro four thirds system from The OM SYSTEM OM-1 an excellent camera, I am now more into wildlife photography and use the OM-1 faster autofocusing.
Please contact me by email (mikefm@btinternet.com)
So is the OM-1 still the best wildlife camera, one year on.
Let’s have a look, I have had the OM-1 for just over a year now and yes, they have tweaked it and bought out the mark 2 OM1- 2 now. But as the old saying goes (a good camera is always going to be a good camera) and the OM is one of the best, and this is how I find it.
So as a run of the mill photographer lets have a look and see what is going on?
My genre is still photography and not video photography, so let’s look at the sensor on the OM-1 it’s a 20.4 MP sensor and has a newly developed chip with a stacked BSI design and quad pixel bayer pattern and no low-pass filter, the G9-2 has a 25.2MP sensor it’s the same one found in the GH6 but tweaked hardware and software according to Panasonic.
AUTOFOCUS
The G9-2 has 779 AF points and phase detection, first time for a Lumix micro 4/3 camera but in S-AF it still uses DfD contrast detection system 315 points but switches to phase detection in continuous mode.
Now look at the OM-1 it has 1,053 cross type points and phase detection that cover the entire sensor. A quad-pixel sensor design means each pixel is composed of four photodiodes that read independently, the camera can analyze in four directions plus using contrast detection with the same number of points.
Low Light
G9-2 has a sensitivity of -4EV at f/2 ISO 100.
OM-1 is -8EV at f/1.2 ISO 100 which equals -6EV at f/2.
Rangefinder as per video
Shooting in Raw and LSF+RAW

2-X Tele Conv in video
Gannet
Kingfisher
Owl
Puffin
Wren
Here we are videoing the puffins from the cliff tops in the East Riding of Yorkshire, if you have not seen the video please go and have a look.
To make life easier I am using a monopod with a Manfrotto 234RC Monopod Tilt Head with Quick Release. I use the 234 Quick Release on all my camera's now because you need speed when you're out in the field.
