History of Midlothian IL

Midlothian began its development in 1900, when a group of wealthy Chicago industrialists were looking for an escape from the city. As they entered Midlothian, they noticed how fresh the ground looked beneath them, and how much room there was compared to the sparse city.

Soon enough, the rich came together to create their own Country Club. Land developers took notice some years later and began to come over and purchase land from farmers for housing and business development. The community saw a spike in 1927, with crowds of people coming through, and many permanent residents. There was so much growth, the small village leaders finally came to terms with the population increase and decided it was time to organize the community and incorporate it. On March 17, 1927, the town was officially incorporated as the Village of Midlothian.

Homes continued to be built in the 1930’s and 1940’s for those that were settling down in Midlothian, IL. In recent years, the town grew from a small population to enough people to accommodate a newly built school and fire house. In 1949, a Village Hall was built for village staff to come together and help sort out problems within the community.
