All aerospace engineering students at Mississippi State University are required to complete their senior seminar or "capstone" project in their final year of studies. This project demonstrates that the students can utilize the information they have learned, as well as function in a multi-disciplinary team.
Winglets are aerodynamic devices that can serve many particular purposes. Most commonly winglets are seen in order to decrease the effects of wingtip vortices at a certain flight condition. Reducing these vortices can improve the effective lift to drag ratio of an airplane, effectively increasing fuel efficiency as well as providing other benefits.
