It’s a weekly gathering of people who care about Rockland and want to work together to find common-sense solutions for the city’s ongoing challenges. Ever had a great idea for Rockland but wasn’t sure where to take it? Share it at Middle Ground and let’s talk about what it will take to make it happen! We meet every Wednesday at 8:30am in the lobby of the Tradewinds. Grab coffee at the Owls News Cafe and join in the discussion!
Who runs Middle Ground? The group was started in July of 2025 by Jan Heimlich who loosely facilitates discussions, but there is no oversight organization. No one is required to join or commit to attending. It’s all about showing up when you can, listening to others, and sharing information and insights.
What have we achieved so far? After conducting numerous “listening sessions” – when Rockland-serving organizations and individuals shared their biggest challenges – we began development of the Community Volunteer Hub of Knox and Waldo counties. Now in the pilot phase, the hub is a centralized, online service that connects volunteers to nonprofit organizations that need them.
What else are we up to? We’re currently exploring ways to meet the needs of older residents in Rockland, including developing a community center. If you care about this issue and want to get involved, we hope you’ll join us at the next Middle Ground gathering!
