No. Most students begin with no previous martial arts experience. Our classes are structured to guide beginners step-by-step while still challenging more advanced students.
We offer classes for:
Kids: Ages 6–12
Adults: Ages 14 and up
Each class is designed to match the physical and mental development of the age group.
We teach traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate as recognized by the International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF). Our instruction follows established standards, techniques, and lineage.
Our primary focus is traditional Goju-Ryu, emphasizing fundamentals, kata, conditioning, self-defense, and discipline. While students may choose to compete, competition is not the sole focus of training.
Training frequency is two nights a week. Most students attend two classes per week, which allows steady progress without burnout.
Yes. We offer two weeks free so new students can experience our training, meet the instructors, and decide if Mid-America Goju-Ryu is the right fit.
Kids (ages 6–12): $30 per month
Adults (ages 14+): $40 per month
There are no contracts required.
All students are required to join the IOGKF USA organization in order to be eligible for rank promotion. This membership supports international standards, training opportunities, and recognized certification.
Comfortable workout clothing such as a t-shirt and athletic pants is fine for beginners. A traditional karate gi can be purchased after enrollment.
Yes. Goju-Ryu is known for its close-range techniques, strong stances, controlled breathing, and practical applications, making it highly effective for real-world self-defense.
Safety is a top priority. Classes are structured, supervised, and age-appropriate, focusing on control, discipline, and respect while building confidence and coordination.
Progress varies by individual, consistency, and dedication. Traditional Goju-Ryu emphasizes skill and understanding, not speed. Rank is earned—not rushed.
