Once Visio is associated with your Microsoft account, you no longer need the product key. It will always be linked to your account and you can re-download the app or manage your license from account.microsoft.com.
The visio file would be saved in your temporary directory, e.g. C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp. When closing visio the LF client should prompt you to save the document back to the repository. If not, this is a bug, but I haven't heard of any reports of edocs being lost like this.
