SQL Server supplies a set of system data types that define all the types of data that can be used with SQL Server. You can also define your own data types in Transact-SQL or the Microsoft .NET Framework. Alias data types are based on the system-supplied data types. For more information about alias data types, see CREATE TYPE (Transact-SQL). User-defined types obtain their characteristics from the methods and operators of a class that you create by using one of the programming languages supported by the .NET Framework.

This article describes new modes of virtual processor scheduling logic introduced in Windows Server 2016. These modes, or scheduler types, determine how the Hyper-V hypervisor allocates and manages work across guest virtual processors. A Hyper-V host administrator can:

Before considering hypervisor scheduler types, you should understand Hyper-V architecture. You can find a more detailed summary of how this architecture works in the Hyper-V technology overview, but for now, you should keep the following concepts in mind:

In Windows Server 2016, the Hyper-V hypervisor supports several modes of scheduler logic, which determine how the hypervisor schedules virtual processors on the underlying logical processors. These scheduler types are:

Hyper-V's provided VM processor resource controls aren't supported when you enable the hypervisor root scheduler. The root operating system's scheduler logic manages host resources on a global basis and isn't managing a single VM's guest resources. The Hyper-V per-VM processor resource controls, such as caps, weights, and reserves, can only apply where the hypervisor directly controls VP scheduling, such as with the classic and core scheduler types.

We don't recommend using the root scheduler with Hyper-V on servers. Its performance characteristics haven't yet been fully characterized and tuned to accommodate the wide range of workloads typical of many server virtualization deployments.

The hypervisor root scheduler isn't supported on Windows Server Hyper-V at this time. Hyper-V administrators shouldn't attempt to configure the root scheduler for use with server virtualization scenarios.

Access data types are differently named from SQL Server data types. For example, a SQL Server column of the bit data type is imported or linked into Access with the Yes/No data type. The following table compares SQL Server and Access data types.

Windows Server (formerly Windows NT Server) is a group of operating systems (OS) for servers that Microsoft has been developing since 1993. The first OS that was released for this platform is Windows NT 3.1 Advanced Server. With the release of Windows Server 2003, the brand name was changed to Windows Server. The latest release of Windows Server is Windows Server 2022, which was released in 2021.

Microsoft's history of developing operating systems for servers goes back to Windows NT 3.1 Advanced Server. Windows 2000 Server is the first OS to include Active Directory, DNS Server, DHCP Server, and Group Policy.

If you have a scenario that requires a larger amount of storage, you can usesharding across multiple DB instances to get around the limit. This approachrequires data-dependent routing logic in applications that connect to thesharded system. You can use an existing sharding framework, or you can writecustom code to enable sharding. If you use an existing framework, the frameworkcan't install any components on the same server as the DB instance.

To use these features, we recommend that you install SQL Server on an Amazon EC2 instance, oruse an on-premises SQL Server instance. In these cases, the EC2 or SQL Serverinstance acts as the Master Data Services server for your SQL Server DB instanceon Amazon RDS. You can install SQL Server on an Amazon EC2 instance with Amazon EBS storage, pursuant to Microsoft licensing policies.

The Microsoft SQL Server database engine uses role-based security. The master user name that you specify when you create a DB instance is a SQL Server Authentication login that is a member of the processadmin, public, and setupadmin fixed server roles.

To set up auditing, set the parameter rds.sqlserver_audit to the value fedramp_hipaa. If your DB instance is not already using a custom DB parameter group, you must create a custom parameter group and attach it to your DB instance before you can modify the rds.sqlserver_audit parameter. For more information, see Working with parameter groups.

Select how you want to sign in to the server. Specify whether to use Windows Authentication or a specific user name and password. If the server is password protected, and you are not in a Kerberos environment, you must enter the user name and password.

If Tableau can't make the connection, verify that your credentials are correct. If you still can't connect, yourcomputer is having trouble locating the server. Contact your networkadministrator or database administrator.

If you use Tableau Desktop on a Mac, when you enter the server name to connect, use a fully qualified domain name, such as mydb.test.ourdomain.lan, instead of a relative domain name, such as mydb or mydb.test.

Alternatively, you can add the domain to the list of Search Domains for the Mac computer so that when you connect, you need to provide only the server name. To update the list of Search Domains, go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced, and then open the DNS tab. e24fc04721
