After completing my Bachelor's degree in Biology and Biotechnology from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, I worked with Dr. Myron L Smith to study nonself recognition in the model fungus Neurospora crassa. I graduated in 2009 with a PhD in Biology from Carleton University. During my PhD, I was an Ontario Graduate Scholar, supported by NSERC and was named as a Young Ambassador of Science.
Shortly thereafter, I joined Dr. Lingchong You's group at Duke University as a post doc. Here, I used a combination of systems and synthetic biology to study antibiotic resistance and bacterial cooperation. I was also named a Duke Scholar in Infectious Disease in 2011-2012.
In 2012, I joined Nova Southeastern University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. Since then, I have worked with numerous undergraduate and graduate students to help them complete research and launch careers both inside and outside of academia. I am proud of the accomplishments of my students; the vast majority have either won awards for their work and/or have published their findings.
In 2022, I joined th Cell Therapy Institute in the Kiran Patel College of Allopathic Medicine at NSU where I continue to perform reseach.
When I am not doing science, I enjoy running, buidling LEGO, Star Wars, and traveling.
