Who are we, what do we do?
The Michigan State Police (MSP) is the statewide law enforcement agency responsible for public safety, criminal investigations, and emergency management across Michigan. Founded in 1917, it operates under the leadership of a Colonel and is organized into districts, specialized bureaus, and posts. MSP provides services ranging from highway patrol and forensic science to cybercrime and homeland security.
The Michigan State Police enforce laws, investigate crimes, and ensure public safety across the state. They patrol highways, respond to emergencies, and operate specialized units like SWAT, cybercrime, and forensic labs. MSP also supports homeland security, manages disaster response, and provides services like firearm licensing and criminal records.
