Frequently Asked Questions
Thank you for your interest in the Michigan Nurses' Study! We frequently get similar questions and comments and have tried to answer them below.
How did you get my email address?
Email addresses of clinicians with licenses to practice are publicly available from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
Is this survey real?
Yes, this survey is a partnership between researchers at the University of Michigan School of Nursing and the Center for Healthcare Research and Transformation. Faculty at the University of Michigan launched a survey in 2022 and CHRT has surveyed physicians for several years. They decided to partner together this year to learn how physicians and nurses in Michigan perceive the current state of health care.
Who sponsored the survey?
The University of Michigan School of Nursing and CHRT - a non-profit - support the study. The project receives no funding from any outside organizations. The study is non-partisan.
I already filled out a survey.
Our team distributed a survey in February 2022. The state of Michigan also distributes an annual survey and we know other groups have as well. Their survey addresses different questions from ours. Our 2023 survey will track some outcomes over new time and ask some new questions. Our survey focus is amplifying the voice of Michigan's nurses and much of the publicity is a result of the strong responses you shared. We are committed to publishing our results and sharing them with policymakers and other key decision leaders.
The survey last time was too long.
We heard that feedback and have shortened this survey substantially. You may answer any questions you like and skip the ones you don't. This is your chance to be heard!
I am not a practicing nurse. Or I have retired. Or I work in a non-clinical role. Do you still want to hear from me?
Yes, we do. We will ask you questions that pertain to your past or current role. You may skip any questions that do not pertain to you.
I am an advanced practice nurse.
We want to hear from you too! Please answer any and all questions that pertain to you and skip those that don't.
I don't practice in Michigan.
We want to hear from you too! We will analyze results separately for those who reside in other states.
I am having trouble accessing the survey.
The survey works best on a desktop or laptop computer and by using a chrome browser.
Please take me off your list.
The easiest way to do this is for you to go back to the original email you received and click the text that says "click here to unsubscribe." You should no longer receive any contacts from us. If that doesn't work, you may email us at mi-clin-survey@umich.edu and we will manually remove you from our database.
Is this an approved study?
Yes. the University of Michigan Health Sciences and Behavioral Sciences Institutional Review Board (IRB) has determined that this study is no more than minimal risk and exempt from on-going IRB oversight. The Protocol Number for the nurse survey is HUM00194595.
Will you keep my information confidential?
All information will be kept confidential as required by law. Data will be kept on a secure computer server that only the research team has access to. To protect your privacy, we will analyze data only after your personal information has been removed from the dataset. No individual responses will be reported. Information from this study will be stored for future research by us or other researchers.
I would like to know the results of the survey.
We will post results on this website when they are ready. You can also click on the results tab above to see copies of papers or add your name to our mailing list to receive copies by clicking here. Please note, you can receive results of the survey whether you complete the survey or not. This email list is completely separate from the survey.
