The screenplays in question:
An Invitation Into The Unknown: A story scene that involves a human being and a cybernetically enhanced individual known as a Posthuman spending some quality time by the sea and talking about their woes before the latter makes an offer to the former that may change his life.
Chasing a Holy Terror-nator: A game cutscene that involves a special agent and wounded fisherman looking for a child robot inside an abandoned school surrounded by zombified paramilitary soldiers. This piece aims to highlight the use of (dark) humor in a harrowing situation.
Theo and Maderath Romance Bit: A game cutscene that has a possessed spellsword share some quiet time with the demon bound to her soul. This sequence features three ending options the player may choose to shape the demon-human relationship. The piece's context stems from this character development sheet.
Description
My goal was to train myself to write with different character voices and agendas in mind within scenes that put pressure on a person’s ability to assert themselves when stacked against different personalities.
To craft the scenes, I followed these steps:
Think of how the scene would end to build a roadmap of the events that lead to it.
Ask yourself how to give the ending viewers want, but not in the way they expect.
Brainstorm the characters’ voices, agendas, and hierarchies.
Study the way in which the tension would slowly rise as the characters got closer to the moment of truth. The following video may prove useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvtOY0YrF-g
Write the scene in Final Draft, with subsequent polish passes focused on improving dialog clarity and pacing.
