I'm looking for PhD students and postdocs! Please reach out to me if you're interested in problems in fair and private voting systems, blockchain security and efficiency, or rational/game theoretic security analysis for blockchains. Please send your CV to michellexyeo@gmail.com.
NTU's college of computing and data science is ranked 5th in the world (2025 QS rankings) and Singapore is a welcoming and diverse society (with plenty of good food!). Our PhD graduates are highly competitive in the global industry and academic job market with plenty of graduates landing positions in top tech companies and universities worldwide.
Some information about working with me and my philosophy as an advisor:
I will give you some directions I find interesting to start with. However, you are free to pursue other directions and collaborate with others. In general, I highly encourage independent thinking.
I will give you guidance to the best of my ability on topics which I'm familiar with (or have strong opinions about). In particular, I believe scientific writing and communication is an underrated skill (and actually still not done well by AI), so this is something I will try to teach, as well as to help you develop your own style. We are all unique and interesting, so its important to develop your own personal style of communication and be comfortable with it- you'll be more memorable this way!
I will try my best to give you the resources you need to be a strong, independent researcher. This involves making sure you get adequate computing resources and equipment, have enough travel funding to attend conferences, and connecting you to relevant people.
I value free and open communication. So when we work together and discuss problems please state your opinions freely. I also value the diversity of ideas, so I will definitely not treat your ideas with contempt, and I do not want you to hold back for fear of ridicule etc.
I do not care if you use AI tools in your research, just please be upfront with me when I ask about it. But let’s write our first paper together (as humans). I think it'll provide better training in scientific communication, and it is also more fun :)
