I'm a scholar and translator of Persian literature who is passionate about sharing the cultural richness of the Persianate world with students and colleagues.
My recent research work has focused on Persian literature in English translation, culminating in my co-edited volume, the Routledge Handbook of Persian Literary Translation (2022); Persian poetics and stylistics (بلاغت); and representations of gender and spiritual authority in early Persianate Sufism.
Through my 8+ years' experience of teaching Persian language, literature, film and culture at the university level, I have developed my own approach to pedagogy that combines up-to-date proficiency-based methods with the best of what traditional approaches have to offer.
Growing up in close proximity to Southern California's Iranian-American population in 'Tehrangeles,' I learned Persian at a local community school and later went on to obtain my doctorate from the University of Cambridge in Asian & Middle Eastern studies.
