Sunflowers by Second Grade Artists
I participated in a community art project led by Indira Frietas Johnson, a local Chicago artist who uses found objects to make repurposed artworks representing peace.
I designed and assembled a few displays during Martin Luther King Day Celebration, but this one is by far my favorite. Since it's a day about peace, second-grade artists designed olive branches, and I constructed a dove, both symbols of peace.
At the 3rd Space in Uptown, I volunteered on a Sunday to help Latin and Goudy School groups prepare for the Argyle Lunar New Year Celebration (Year of the Rat). I was in charge of outing letters and a giant rat on the banner. Afterward, students painted and added a few friendly rats of their own.
