When you’re on a tight budget, sometimes it feels like you’re not allowed to have fun. But to stay happy and healthy, you need to treat yourself every once in a while. Here are some Michelle L. Marquez-approved, wallet-friendly treats:
Prepare your favorite food and drink from the comfort of home
Sometimes eating out can be expensive but if you have kitchen skills, you can enjoy your favorite dish, pastry, or drink for less. All you have to do is get the ingredients, search online for the recipes, and spend time whipping up your fave. For many of my friends, spending hours in the kitchen can be therapeutic. It makes them forget about the things that make them anxious and they also get to enjoy nice food.
Go on a nature hike
You can explore national parks for free during the holidays. Or you can go to the nearest park and take a walk. Spend a day being in the midst of nature. Bring your friends or your camera with you for a relaxing time.
Have a movie marathon at home
If you didn’t know, I am also Michelle L. Marquez, rom-com movie lover. For a relaxing time, buy your favorite snacks or invite friends over. Sometimes the best way to treat yourself is to immerse in engaging stories told through film. Put your Netflix subscription to good use and have a day just for watching movies.
Borrow books from the library or go back to your to-be-read pile
Check out the nearest library for interesting reads. If you have a membership, you don’t have to spend much to get the books you need. For those with unread books gathering dust on the shelf, it’s time to clean them up and start reading. Nothing beats a nice day with an engaging book and a mug of your favorite drink.
