Michelle Hoeckel-Neal is a writer and teacher based in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
After earning her Master's in English - Creative Writing from the University of Maine, Michelle worked as an academic advisor at a local university. Now, she is pursuing a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.
She is a writer of fiction, poetry, and hybrid genres. Her words have appeared in literary magazines including Every Day Fiction, JAKE Magazine, and Bright Flash Literary Review.
Michelle is currently querying for publication a flash and short fiction collection titled Object (of) Permanence. She is also preparing a poetry chapbook, Near You: Co-Respondence Poems, which features poems written in co-respondence with a family archive of letters. She is interested in creative writing pedagogy; particularly decolonial, feminist, queer, and anti-racist approaches.
She loves to cook, hang out with her cat, and attend local swing dance lessons with her wife.
