About Me

Hello! My name is Michelle Crooks. I am a full-time English Instructor at Grossmont College, and I supervise the English embedded tutors in our accelerated courses. I have a BA in English Literature and an MA in Rhetoric and Writing Studies. I have been teaching for almost 10 years, 4 of which have included online teaching.

This is my "why" for teaching that I developed in the @ONE Certificate Program: My purpose is to offer a positive academic experience that is engaging for students, especially those students who have had negative experiences in school in the past. Through the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills they learn in my class, I hope to prepare them for their other classes and a future career. I am also there to learn from them, support them with their needs even outside the classroom (such as letters of rec or connecting them to campus resources), and make sure all students have access to an equitable higher education.
