Michele Turbanti

I was born in Grosseto in 1994. In 2013 I moved to Florence to study Architecture. During the first period I remained connected with my hometown by partecipating in a group that promoted cultural events in town. During my architectural studies I developed my passion for the photographic media and I started to study photography as well. After university I begun to work as an architect in Florence, but in 2022 I decided to dedicate myself to art as a profession, along my work as an architect. In 2023 I finally moved to Turin where there is a more prolific underground culture that allows me to explore different environments.

Statement

My projects’ aim is to study and trigger a reaction to a contemporary world dominated by unique and authoritarian economic dynamics, in which the promise of an alleged self affirmation completely destroys social cohesion.

I try to find new ways to use my design skills to analyse the environment that I work in and I developed a new method that mixes architecture with the photographic media to operate directly in the urban landscape, starting to include political statements in my projects.

Mixing my architectural background with photography at first and then the artistic practice in general, has lead my research to investigate different dynamics that come into play in designing space, if you think it related to the social background you operate in.
