Hello! I already gave a quick summary introduction on the home page, but here I'll go a little more in-depth. First, a recap: I'm a Film and Media Studies major from the University of California, Irvine. While my major focuses on the study of film as UCI is a primarily research-based school, that doesn't mean I haven't worked hands-on to create music videos, short films, etc.
I've been a part of Anteater TV since my second year (2022-23) and it's truly been a great experience as it's through this organization that I was able to work on set for the first time and learn about the many roles and equipment. I worked my way up from being an intern that would fulfill any role on set to being a producer that works to put together the shoots in the first place!
I've also had the opportunity to work on a few short films through ZotFilm, another organization on campus, and the production courses available. It's so rewarding being there for the entire process of pre-production (coming up with an idea, writing the script, location scouting, creating a shot-list, gathering cast and crew), production (working on set with everything to make sure we get all the footage we need, directing the cast and crew in their roles, working with sound or lighting), and post-production (going over cut after cut of the film with the editor to make sure it's just right). It's a lot of fun being able to work with friends and new acquaintances to create something we're proud of. The memories of everyone's hard work and entertainment are incredibly worth it.
That being said, I wouldn't exactly say that I also knew that I wanted to go into film. Growing up I had a big imagination and would always picture myself growing up to do whatever I was hyper fixated on in the moment. When I was really young, I used to do dance, gymnastics, cheer, and I thought maybe I'll grow up to be a ballerina/gymnast/cheerleader. Then in middle school I did cross country/track and participated in the school musicals. Maybe I'll become a runner or an actress! My stage fright got the best of me in both scenarios. Then I started playing soccer. I played for five years and loved every second of it. I'll play soccer! I only ever ended up playing recreationally before COVID hit and I had to stop playing altogether.
But I had always had that creative bone in me. Whether it comes from people on both sides of my family being talented artists, I don't know, but I've always loved to write. My mom introduced me to books quite young because she wanted to encourage my brother and me to read. And read I did. In fact, it's one of my biggest dreams to turn a room (if I ever own a home) into a library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. If I were to put together all the books I own, both from my childhood home and the ones I have with me now, they'd probably fill at least a couple of bookshelves. And that's not even counting the things I've read online that don't have physical copies.
It's because of my love of books and the idea of bringing the ideas in my head to life that I turned to film and the prospect of screenwriting!
